Hypoglycemia and Hair Loss

Question:

I am 27 and I have suffered from multiple episodes of hypoglycemia. I also started noticing my hair is not as thick as it used to be. I’m nervous about losing my hair because of hypoglycemia. Is there a connection between hypoglycemia and hair loss ?

Answer:

The acute state of hypoglycemia cannot cause hair loss, although it has many other possible dangerous effects, and must be treated.

Most commonly hypoglycemic episodes are a result of diabetes, and hair loss can be a rare side-effect of diabetes, so if you suffer from diabetes, you could look into that as a possible, if somewhat unlikely, cause.
