Does Lupus Cause Hair Loss?

I am 24 and have been recently diagnosed with Lupus. I heard that among side effects, Lupus can cause hair loss. Is that true? Does Lupus cause hair loss?

Yes, lupus can cause hair loss. It can actually be the first sign of the disease. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be permanent – Lupus treatments often help patients grow their hair back.

Lupus patients may suffer from hair thinning before being diagnosed or when experience a lupus flare. However, hair loss as a result of lupus is usually not permanent and the hair will grow back with proper treatment.

You might also want to consult your doctor about ways to prevent future lupus flares (as a mean to prevent future hais loss).
