Can Wigs Cause Hair Loss?

A good friend of mine is suffering from lupus and she has lost a lot of her hair. Her doctor told her that once treated, her hair can grow back, but in the meantime she really dislikes the bald patches on her had and wants to get a wig. While this is a good temporary solution, if it will prevent future hair growth then it will make her feel even worse about her hair.

Can wigs cause hair loss?

No, this is a myth. Wigs, like hats, cannot cause hair loss.

  2. Corey Says:

Contrary to popular belief, hair follicles do no need “air”, they get their oxygen through the blood stream. Therefore, wigs don’t prevent the scalp from receiving required oxygen.

Wigs cannot cause hair loss, except for times when they cause friction. If a wig sits too tightly on the head, it can cause some hair pulling when you move around.
