Can hair dye cause hair loss?

My girlfriend has started dyeing her hair about a year ago and now she complains that her hair looks dry and not as thick as it used to be. Can hair dye cause hair loss?

  1. Emma Says:

In general, hair dye is not a common cause for hair loss.

It can damage the look and feel of the hair (since most hair dyes contain harsh chemicals), but if it is performed by a hair care professional, or even at home (following detailed instructions and rinsing off the solution in time) there is no reason for it to cause hair thinning.

If your girlfriend is worried, she should consult a dermatologist.
There are many possible causes for hair loss, and it is hard to figure out the real reason for hair loss without the help of a doctor.
